{"id":79,"date":"2012-07-08T13:19:00","date_gmt":"2012-07-08T13:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cocktailfarmers.com\/?p=79"},"modified":"2012-07-08T13:19:00","modified_gmt":"2012-07-08T13:19:00","slug":"radishes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cocktailfarmers.com\/?p=79","title":{"rendered":"Radishes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-pdP6edxrWAI\/T_mDURkGLPI\/AAAAAAAAATU\/-lNm6K4dMAU\/s1600\/CIMG5406.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" sca=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-pdP6edxrWAI\/T_mDURkGLPI\/AAAAAAAAATU\/-lNm6K4dMAU\/s320\/CIMG5406.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Fourth of July has come and gone, and with it my first attempt to make something with the radishes.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-os3KyNvl-RM\/T_mEDmPYzyI\/AAAAAAAAATc\/noBEq1fEPLU\/s1600\/CIMG5404.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" sca=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-os3KyNvl-RM\/T_mEDmPYzyI\/AAAAAAAAATc\/noBEq1fEPLU\/s320\/CIMG5404.JPG\" width=\"240\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I made the Delectable Radish Dip as directed by The Hungry Hippo.\u00a0 She was right, it was delectable.\u00a0 I stole a page from Stella Caroline and put the radishes in my food processor.\u00a0 I think she has a much better food processor than I do, with multiple blades that chop vegetables better than mine does, but I will say pitching whole radishes into a mini food processor and pressing &#8220;high&#8221; makes a terrifically fun racket.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>There were more radishes ready this weekend, so I went online to the Food Network website to see what I could find, and found a recipe by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/rachael-ray\/red-radish-salad-recipe\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Rachael Ray<\/a>\u00a0called Red Radish Salad that we liked even better than the DRD from The Hippo.\u00a0 (Sorry Hippo.)\u00a0 <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2><span><u>Ingredients<\/u><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><!--concordance-begin--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 teaspoons sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 lemon, juiced<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup sour cream<\/li>\n<li>8 red radishes, thinly sliced<\/li>\n<li>2 Delicious apples, quartered cored and thinly sliced<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 European seedless cucmber, thinly sliced<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill<\/li>\n<li>Salt and black pepper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--concordance-end--><\/p>\n<h2><span><u>Directions<\/u><\/span><\/h2>\n<div>\n<div>Combine sugar, lemon juice &#038; sour cream in a medium bowl with a fork. Add radishes, apple, and cucumber.\u00a0 Turn vegetables and fruit in dressing to coat. Season with dill, salt, and pepper, toss again; serve.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I know a lot of people don&#8217;t like Rachael Ray but I&#8217;ve been a subscriber to her magazine for a couple of years and I really like her because she uses prepared ingredients in a lot of her recipes which is totally necessary when you want to make dinner on a weeknight and you don&#8217;t get home until almost 7 PM.\u00a0 Anyway, we really liked the salad.\u00a0 I made a substitution by using Granny Smith apples instead of Delicious apples, based on some of the comments from people who had made the salad.\u00a0 I will definitely make this again.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-Tckn4nZcjc8\/T_mFoOUbEOI\/AAAAAAAAATk\/dSQto5oMXB0\/s1600\/CIMG5418.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" sca=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-Tckn4nZcjc8\/T_mFoOUbEOI\/AAAAAAAAATk\/dSQto5oMXB0\/s320\/CIMG5418.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I also chopped up the cucumber, apples and radishes more than she suggests, just to make sure that we didn&#8217;t end up with a forkful of radish for a bite.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Our very first summer squash has been picked, and will be used in tonight&#8217;s dinner.\u00a0 J suggested I look for a recipe that involved both radishes and summer squash but I don&#8217;t think those are two items that have been very popular combinations.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-RFoUhKLV0tg\/T_mGUFtkBVI\/AAAAAAAAATs\/OX8g4fVPkC0\/s1600\/CIMG5412.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" sca=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-RFoUhKLV0tg\/T_mGUFtkBVI\/AAAAAAAAATs\/OX8g4fVPkC0\/s320\/CIMG5412.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Oh, and do you see that small red thing at the front of the photo?\u00a0 That would be a strawberry.\u00a0 Yes, really.\u00a0 I got one the chipmunk missed.\u00a0 I brought it in, washed it off and decided I would eat it after dinner.\u00a0 It tasted terrible.\u00a0 Really and truly terrible.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t even describe the flavor.\u00a0 So maybe the chipmunk is doing me a favor?<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of someone who isn&#8217;t doing me any favors, here he is napping in my purple bush beans.\u00a0 Literally on one of the plants:<\/p>\n<table align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-Hhy0MJ0HDz0\/T_mCHh5gnuI\/AAAAAAAAATM\/wg2XJf8i9z4\/s1600\/CIMG5397.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" sca=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-Hhy0MJ0HDz0\/T_mCHh5gnuI\/AAAAAAAAATM\/wg2XJf8i9z4\/s320\/CIMG5397.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>I know, you&#8217;ve missed him.\u00a0 He&#8217;s still around, and still napping.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<div>He came into the main garden with me to &#8220;help&#8221; me weed.\u00a0 Despite having about 15 pounds of cat on top of them, the beans are doing really well, and flowering like crazy.\u00a0 Soon I&#8217;ll be hunting up bean recipes.\u00a0 Stay tuned.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fourth of July has come and gone, and with it my first attempt to make something with the radishes.
