{"id":78,"date":"2012-07-11T17:24:00","date_gmt":"2012-07-11T17:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cocktailfarmers.com\/?p=78"},"modified":"2012-07-11T17:24:00","modified_gmt":"2012-07-11T17:24:00","slug":"squashes-and-herbs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cocktailfarmers.com\/?p=78","title":{"rendered":"Squashes and Herbs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I made <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/food-network-kitchens\/herbed-summer-squash-recipe\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Herbed Summer Squash<\/a>\u00a0using a fresh summer squash, zucchini, thyme and parsley from our garden.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-C9SYYR4pOrY\/TiCFueMJq2I\/AAAAAAAAAE4\/c3VpU42xSEY\/s1600\/CIMG4477.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-C9SYYR4pOrY\/TiCFueMJq2I\/AAAAAAAAAE4\/c3VpU42xSEY\/s200\/CIMG4477.JPG\" width=\"200\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>I\u00a0am always in search of new recipes &#8211; I search the Food Network website often (and have found two great recipes in\u00a0two days this past week from there) and I also subscribe to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rachaelraymag.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Every Day with Rachael Ray<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cookinglight.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cooking Light<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodandwine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Food &#038; Wine<\/a>\u00a0and my mother in law gives me a gift subscription to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vegetariantimes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vegetarian Times<\/a>, which is then gifted to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laughcooklove.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stella Caroline<\/a>\u00a0who has a policy of cooking vegetarian at least once a week.\u00a0 (Admirable; I use the recipes for ideas for sides.)<\/p>\n<p>I love the magazines because <em>Food &#038; Wine<\/em> and <em>Every Day with Rachael Ray<\/em> often have great suggestions for kitchen gadgets and other gift ideas that I think are perfect for the cooks in my life.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not the only cook in my household; J has quickly become a grilling expert.\u00a0 He&#8217;s very partial to the show on PBS called <em>Barbeque University with Steve Raichlen<\/em>.\u00a0 The show has given us <a href=\"http:\/\/www.primalgrill.org\/recipe_details.asp?RecipeID=209&#038;EpisodeID=25\" target=\"_blank\">Bourbon Brined Pork Chops<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbqu.net\/season3\/305_4.html#bourbon_ham\" target=\"_blank\">Bourbon &#038; Apricot Pork<\/a>\u00a0(the recipe calls for ham but we substituted)\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbqu.net\/season3\/311_4.html\" target=\"_blank\">Tennessee Pork Loin<\/a>, the latter prompting J to ask if we had a good pepper mill.\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t, so he made do with what we had.\u00a0\u00a0The recipe\u00a0was fantastic.\u00a0 Good thing, because he&#8217;ll be asked to make it again.\u00a0 If only he had the right tools&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward to today &#8211; I am flipping through the August issue of <em>Food &#038; Wine<\/em> where NYC chef Nick Anderer cites this pepper <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unicornmills.com\/Magnum-0\/\" target=\"_blank\">mill<\/a>\u00a0as kitchen gear worthy of a splurge.\u00a0 Since I like to encourage J to cook (and keep the heat out of my kitchen in summer), I went over to the website and ordered one for him.\u00a0 The company is based on Nantucket, which seems both odd and fascinating to me as I always think of the island as being purely a tourist destination, but obviously it must have some other industries.\u00a0\u00a0One of\u00a0which is making pepper mills.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>Further along in that F &#038; W issue is an article about Sauvignon Blancs, which caught my attention for two reasons &#8211; 1.)
