{"id":104,"date":"2011-08-17T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-08-17T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cocktailfarmers.com\/?p=104"},"modified":"2011-08-17T13:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-08-17T13:00:00","slug":"and-now-for-something-completely-different-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cocktailfarmers.com\/?p=104","title":{"rendered":"And now for something completely different"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We spent the last week in NY visiting my FIL (my MIL is in Denmark, visiting her siblings and their children) which means I&#8217;ve spent some time on someone else&#8217;s garden instead of my own.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-8vviFSxLHkw\/Tkk-qWoRhkI\/AAAAAAAAAGM\/pnPm1SWPPC8\/s1600\/IMG_1957.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" naa=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-8vviFSxLHkw\/Tkk-qWoRhkI\/AAAAAAAAAGM\/pnPm1SWPPC8\/s320\/IMG_1957.JPG\" width=\"240\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Starting on the left, there is curly and flat leaf parsley, swiss chard and radishes.\u00a0 My FIL is also growing four types of tomatoes (plum, Early Girl, cherry &#038; sungold &#8211; I have not been denied my beloved sungolds while in NY!), pickling cucumbers, summer squash and rhubarb.\u00a0 I am most fascinated by the radishes.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-HrdJX4VyLqc\/TklAIlR2QZI\/AAAAAAAAAGc\/7ZL0UVVUN6o\/s1600\/IMG_1958.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" naa=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-HrdJX4VyLqc\/TklAIlR2QZI\/AAAAAAAAAGc\/7ZL0UVVUN6o\/s320\/IMG_1958.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>These radishes are ENORMOUS:<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-xYdoqsBOX5E\/TklAVkjHdLI\/AAAAAAAAAGg\/S5-lS9vJAUQ\/s1600\/IMG_1960.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" naa=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-xYdoqsBOX5E\/TklAVkjHdLI\/AAAAAAAAAGg\/S5-lS9vJAUQ\/s320\/IMG_1960.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 That is my thumb next to the radish.\u00a0 I do not have tiny fingers, either.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>My\u00a0FIL tells me that they are German radishes, so apparently in addition to making excellent cars, the Germans also excel at engineering radishes.\u00a0 We&#8217;re going to take a few home with us, as my FIL tells me that they are very mild and add an excellent crunch to sandwiches.\u00a0 (I have always been partial to potato chips, but they lack in nutritional value, so we&#8217;ll give the radishes a shot.)\u00a0 I think I will be checking with the incomparable <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laughcooklove.wordpress.com\/\">Stella Caroline<\/a> for ideas on dishes that include radishes.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t all gardening and home repair projects back in NY &#8211; two posts ago I mentioned my NY cousins.\u00a0 We went to the Bronx Zoo one day with my cousin J (yes, another cousin J) her two boys S &#038; C, and her sister, my other cousin M.\u00a0 (We were at M&#8217;s wedding last month.)\u00a0 The zoo is really fun with two two-year-olds:<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-qG2RZBxz-ow\/Tkk8iHcnn1I\/AAAAAAAAAGI\/4oA0FZ0R5AQ\/s1600\/CIMG4524.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" naa=\"true\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-qG2RZBxz-ow\/Tkk8iHcnn1I\/AAAAAAAAAGI\/4oA0FZ0R5AQ\/s320\/CIMG4524.JPG\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure my FIL has some radishes are nearly the size of those boys.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We spent the last week in NY visiting my FIL (my MIL is in Denmark, visiting her siblings and their children) which means I&#8217;ve spent some time on someone else&#8217;s garden instead of my own.
